Perfect Project

Once I get an idea in my head I don’t stop till I figure it out. Being a creative person I knew I could come up with something that would fit the need. The Stepping stones are round in shape so was the pizza pan. Being a crafter for quite some time I knew I would have some in my craft stash.  I purchase items ahead of time with hopes of finding the perfect project down the road. My craft stash was the first place I headed knowing I would come up with some great items. I had some pizza pans from awhile back with the hopes to do a Diy project, this seemed like the perfect project. Pizza pans were the perfect shape and size, perhaps this was a great start. Now having the base I needed to search for things found in a garden.

Gathering Supplies

Now having the perfect shape what else could I add to make this come to life? The pizza pan was the perfect shape and it had the right depth to add things that wouldn’t slide off.  It had a lip all the way around which was a bonus. Perhaps I got lucky with this pizza pan. I searched some more and came up with two bags of rocks, faux succulents, and a plastic flower pot. Wow, my pizza pan garden craft was coming together. Adding the garden decor was going to be the fun part.

Creating A Garden

Okay, supplies were together now I had to make it work and create a garden design. The design I was going for was similar to a rock garden. Knowing I wanted a garden look, succulents were a perfect choice. Every garden has something green.  Heating up my trusty glue gun, I began planning steps to see what was going to work best. If this was even going to work. Knowing for sure I was going to give it one heck of a try. After all, I wasn’t going to give up easily. Determine to make my pizza pan garden work. Now to create the garden look I was going for.

Planning and Prepping

Now that everything was coming together let the planning begin. I applied a thin coat of mod podge with a small artist brush. Why? to prime,  giving the surface a more ruffed up and not so slippery feel. It would help the hot glue to adhere better. After allowing the mod podge to dry completely I started to design my pizza pan garden. Wanting my flower pot to look like someone dropped it in the garden. I cut the flower pot in half. I decided to paint the pot white using Dixie Belle Paint Company color Cotton. Using a two-inch chip brush I painted it allowing it to dry completely before putting it into place.  Using my glue gun I glued it into place exactly where I wanted it. Happy with the placement being in the center. This pizza pan garden idea was starting to look possible.

Working From The Inside Out

Now that the flower pot was down I started making a succulents arrangement.  Wanting to make it look like they were spilling out of the flower pot. Starting with the opening of my flower pot placing the succulents and arranging them to where I thought they looked the best. I used my glue gun to hot glue each one down in place. So far so good everything was coming together.  I was working from the inside of the middle of my pizza pan garden and working my way to the edges. Finding this the easiest way to do this. Now that the succulents were glued down my pizza pan garden was shaping up.

Adding The Rocks

Once my succulents were hot glued into place I wanted to add rocks to give it a rock garden look. After all, I was going for a garden decor look. Wanting to bring the outside indoors I was excited with the results so far. Once again I begin working from the middle of my pizza pan garden. Arranging the rocks around the succulents working out and working my way to the edges. This took a little patience because the rocks being different shapes and sizes but so worth the effort in the end. Once I got all the rocks in place using my glue gun I glued the rocks downs. I found placing a line of glue on the pizza pan worked easier and quicker than trying to hot glue the rocks one at a time. My pizza pan garden was finally shaping up. I loved the way it was coming out.

Final Details

I allowed my pizza pan garden to sit overnight to completely dry. I still had the lip of the pizza pan to deal with. Not wanting it shiny I decided to use a jute rope for the edges.  I choose it because it had a rustic look and would go perfectly with the look I was trying to create. I heated up my glue gun and started to hot glue the jute rope to the pizza pan. Starting at the bottom and working my way around the lip to completely cover the edge. I applied hot glue first and place the jute rope on top. Doing about three inches at a time. Until the entire lip was covered with a finished edge with the jute rope. Finally, my DIY pizza pan crafts were done and looked fabulous. I hope I inspired you to create your DIY pizza pan crafts ideas.

I purchased two beautiful pieces from Annie. One of them was completed before purchase and the other was a custom job. I get so many compliments on both pieces. She was patient and helpful start to finish, and did I mention how much I love the furniture!
