Easy Easter Carrot Decor

With the change of each season, I like to create new decorations to use in my home and outside. Recently I have been making projects to decorate for Spring and Easter. Flowers, birds, bunnies, there are endless themes to choose from to make cute Spring/Easter home decorations.

I want to share with you a craft that I made using a foam poster board, paint, a napkin, some greenery, and some orange plastic spoons. I had never used plastic spoons on a craft project previously, and they turned out unique and adorable. You can get most of these supplies at Dollar Tree, and the paint you can buy from Walmart, or purchase it on Amazon.

I recommend before you sit down to start making this craft, cut the handles most of the way off of some of the spoons so that they’re ready for you to use when you get to the step to attach them. I also highly suggest wearing safety glasses when you are cutting the spoons because every once in a while a small piece would chip off and go flying when I cut the handles off of them.

Once I sat down to begin, I took a poster board and drew a large carrot shape on it. I then cut the shape out and painted it with Tropic Orange Apple Barrel paint. I made sure to paint the sides of it as well in case they end up showing. I also took a coffee can and traced a circle onto what was left of the foam poster board, cut it out, and painted it white.

After the paint dried on the carrot shape, I started attaching the plastic spoons into place on it. I began at the bottom by using hot glue and attaching two whole spoons face down onto the bottom of the carrot shape. I placed the curved end on the bottom, and the handle of the spoon was placed along the edge of the carrot shape going upwards. I then continued to glue whole spoons overlapping them until they were about halfway up on the carrot shape. Once I was halfway up with them, I started to use the spoon pieces that I had cut. I continued to layer them, and glue them the rest of the way up to the top. I also glued some of the spoon pieces along the sides of the poster board shape to hide it more.

I came across a very cute napkin that is Spring farm-themed and decided to decoupage it onto the circle that I had cut out earlier. I used Mod Podge, putting a light coat on the circle. I let that dry while I cut a square piece off the napkin and separated the ply layers to use just the top layer.

Centering the napkin piece, I placed it onto the circle and used an iron to activate the coat of Mod Podge which will adhere the napkin to the circle minimizing bubbles and wrinkles. You can iron it with or without wax paper in between the napkin and iron, I’ve seen people do it both ways depending on the project they’re creating. After I made sure the napkin was smoothly attached to the circle, I trimmed the parts of the napkin that were hanging off of the edge. The next step that I did was to apply a decent amount of hot glue to the back of the circle and then centered it as best I could and place it onto the carrot.

For the next part, I used some fern greenery that I bought at Dollar Tree. Feel free to use any type of greenery you’d like. Cut it and use hot glue to attach it to the top of the carrot. I also took a piece of fern and glued it to the front side of the top to make it look more finished.

I hope this project inspires you to create a carrot to decorate your home for Easter! If you make sure to share your beautiful project in my Facebook group:
