Christmas Is Coming Soon!

Christmas is coming up fast. I mean, where has October gone? I can hardly believe the month is almost over! Anyways, I wanted to start making some cute crafts to prepare for the holiday season. Santa is a huge focus during the holiday season, so I decided to start there. Not wanting to tackle an entire Santa yet, I started with a wooden Santa head. I love making affordable crafts that way everyone can make and enjoy them. This craft is no exception! It was super fun to make a wooden Santa head and kick off the holiday season a little early. I believe it is never to early for a little bit of holiday cheer!

Getting Started With Holiday Magic

To start off my project, I wanted to sketch my Santa’s face with some chalk. I drew some eyes and cheek lines. Using Apple Barrel Bright Blue, I painted the inner section of the eyes using an artist brush. Then, using a medium artist brush and Apple Barrel Snowflake, I painted the outer section of the eyes. To make the eyes look more realistic, I used a little bit of Apple Barrel Black on the very inner core of the eyes. This really helped the eyes come together. Next, I painted some rosy cheeks using Apple Barrel Pink. This made it look like he just came from somewhere cold.

Next, I painted a large wooden bead with the Apple Barrel Pink I used for the cheeks. I placed a brush through the center hole of the bead and painted it that way so it was easier. This also assures that you won’t accidentally remove or scrape the paint. I waited for the paint to dry before using my glue gun and gluing it on the wooden Santa head right between his eyes. I waited for the glue to dry before moving on to my next step. After putting a thick line of glue across the top of my wooden Santa head, I held the Santa hat in place until the glue was completely dry and the hat was secure. Next, I glued the Christmas floral pick onto the white part of the hat and let it dry.

Christmas Cheer

Snow is something we all hope for around Christmas, so snowflakes were my next step. I wanted to put a small snowflake on his hat, but I also had one more idea. His eyes were facing inwards so if I put a snowflake on his nose, it would look like he is looking at it. I put my snowflakes were I wanted them, gluing them down, and waited for the glue to dry. I made sure they were able to stay on just fine before moving on.

We all know that Santa wears glasses, so I wanted to add some glasses of my own to my wooden Santa head. Using some wire I have in my crafting stash, I bent it  in the shape of circles and used another piece of wire to connect the circles together. I placed a dab of glue on the nose before holding the glasses on top. I let the glue completely dry and made sure the glasses were secure before letting them stand on their own. If you ever find something is not as secure as you want, just add more glue!

Finishing My Project

Once I finished making my wooden Santa head, I felt satisfied with the end result. He would make a great starting project for the holiday season and would look cute.
