This is the time of year everyone is usually busy working on their flower beds and gardens. I’ve been putting new flowers in pots to sit out in my yard, and making various yard decorations. I like to relax on our front porch, and take in the beauty around me. I have people occasionally stop while they’re walking past on the sidewalk, and tell me how great our yard looks, and how nice the garden decor is. This is really a fun time of year, full of color and new growth.
I’ve been having fun putting flowers that I purchase from local garden centers into flower pots, and setting them outside in different areas of our yard. I took this blue container, and with a handful of items, was able to turn it into a really cute planter!
This is what the container initially looked like. I began by adding a couple coats of Paint Pixie’s Magical Chaulk Paint – Marshmallow. I didn’t try to fully cover the color underneath, because I wanted it to have a more rustic look. I think the bits of blue peeking through give it just the right pop of color.
I had this “Welcome” cutout piece, and decided to trace the shape of the word onto the container. I used a black Sharpie paint pen, which worked great.
The next thing I did was use some black Apple Barrel paint to paint in the traced letters. I also brushed some of the black paint onto the rim of the container, the handles, and around the bottom edge of it.
I really love how it turned out! The only thing I needed to do now was plant some flowers. I added some gorgeous red Dahlias!
I hope that I’ve given you some creative inspiration, and that you create some upcycled flower pots of your own! If you do, I’d love for you to share pictures of them in my Facebook group!
