DIY Vintage Truck Decor For All Seasons

Please follow and like us:

Everyone is crazy about the red trucks this year. Including myself, I love them!  They are just too darn cute. After taking down my holiday decorations. The house was looking quite bare. Having a few of those adorable vintage trucks that are too cute to put away thinking perhaps maybe I could come up with another way of keeping them out longer. Maybe they didn’t have to stay red to be cute? Maybe they could be another color and still be cute. Maybe I should upcycle one for another holiday? Maybe I should just keep them out until I just got tired of looking at them? But I doubt that was going to happen anytime soon. But I could come up with something to make them stick around a little longer. After all, Spring wasn’t that far away.

Creating an Old  Fashioned Spring Time Truck

Deciding on creating Old Fashioned Springtime Vintage Truck. Then once I use to see with the flowers in the back. That drove down the streets years ago. After all, it was a vintage truck, right? Why I think it’s a perfect idea. That way I could keep this adorable Christmas tree vintage truck til spring. The ideas that went through my head. My creativeness and thriftiness were again taking over. Does that happen to you also? You have a great idea and just run with it? Thinking all kinds of creative ideas one right after the other. Thinking spring I thought flowers. I had some roses on hand and Valentine’s was just around the corner.  Why not? Excited I couldn’t wait to get started. I wanted something sparkling and new, This cute little red vintage truck wasn’t going anywhere if I could help it. I removed the Merry Christmas lettering by lightly sanding the letters off with 180 grit sandpaper. It came off easy practically without any effort. Dusting off the glitter using one of my small paint brushes I was really happy thinking this truck isn’t going away anytime soon. Once all the glitter was removed. The Christmas tree in the back of the truck needed to be removed next. I removed this by bending and twisting slightly, it came off easily in my hand. Then I painted the whole truck white using Dixie Belle color Fluff, I knew this would not only prime the surface but it would also cover the red easily.

Dixie Belle paint makes a full line of colors that makes updated your decor for any season easy

Allowing the paint to dry thoroughly approximately twenty to thirty minutes. Once dried  I then applied Dixie Belle Soft pink color paint. To the fenders and hood areas. While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled on the glitter. Making sure to cover the areas well and evenly as possible. Allowing this to dry thoroughly approximately twenty to thirty minutes before moving on to the next step.

So many different Possibilities

I chose a very pretty napkin. They had pink hearts on them and a white background. Knowing this would take my cute little vintage truck well into Spring and keep it hanging around for a while longer. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and perfect for Summer-time too.  You could also place this in a wreath or use for a Wedding or Baby Shower. You could do this in so many different colors and flowers. The ideas are endless. My upcycled Merry Christmas vintage red truck was going to be hanging around for quite some time. So many useful ideas.

Let the Construction Begin

The napkin was two-ply. In order for the mod podge to work better, I removed the back layer of the napkin. Grabbing the corner I gently pulled apart. Placing the napkin on the truck I carefully cut out the napkin to fit properly. Leaving a little overhang on the sides. The napkins were small so I used three. You may need less depending on the size you choose. Applying a layer of mod podge with a paintbrush to the white areas of the truck. I placed my napkins over the mod podge. Pressing down slightly. With my fingers, I smooth out any bubbles or roughness. Allowing this to dry for approximately an hour.

Let the Creativeness Begin

with a little bit of paint and creativity you can keep your decor updated all year long

Once fully dried I trim the excess paper. Turning the truck over I placed the small piece of foam board where the Christmas tree once was. Trimming it to fit I used the glue gun to adhere to place. Wow, it was finally coming together. Using a dab of glue I placed the foam roses where I thought they looked best. Using the small cloth roses as added pops of colors. I am so happy the way it came out.

I purchased two beautiful pieces from Annie. One of them was completed before purchase and the other was a custom job. I get so many compliments on both pieces. She was patient and helpful start to finish, and did I mention how much I love the furniture!
